Icarus

Icarus

by Michael Brookbank

"My father has released me

From the prison I have lived in all my life

And now we spread out our arms

And sail through the sky

But as my freedom grows old

The beauty that blinds catches my eye

My father cries out to me not to get too close

"It'll burn your wings and surely you will die."

But I am like a moth to the flame

And ignore his warning

Now I can smell the wax melting

And I begin falling

And I can still remember it, the face he made

When I started to descend

Into the sea where I'll never

See his face again."
