dead leaves
why do you still cling to the trees?
it has been months since The Fall,
the sweet surrender of it all,
yet you never did let go
of the trees you used to know
you only swayed
When God’s breath tried to take you away
you questioned Him for His reason
but it was to protect you from the coldest season
now the Ice fills your veins,
but let it not become like chains
for your sake, let go, please
just like the other leaves
embrace this death
and be promised a New Breath.
for the branches you still cling to
will never again give you color or make you new.
so dead leaves
why do you still cling to the trees?
